Behind the Caregiver

Behind every caregiver, there are people that rarely are seen. They are behind the scenes loving, supporting, sacrificing, and witnessing what it takes to care for someone with Alzheimer’s. With more than 60% of Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers being women, there are many many spouses, significant others, children and/or nieces, nephews, and pets (can’t forget our furry beings who offer unconditional love) who are affected by the realities of the caregiving role.

These are my people that support me and lift me higher. My family never complains when I leave them often to help care for my mom and when my mom stays with us, they make her feel at home. As for my mom’s caregivers, there are people behind them too and my family is extended in a way I never imagined. Will I ever be able to repay them for the care they provide my mom?

All I can do is thank each and every one of them. All I can do is be completely grateful. All I can say is I love you. I hope I say this enough.

To the people genuinely supporting each caregiver caring for someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s, you have a special place on center stage.

Until,

Marie
